BIOLOGY 10

Below are important links for this class.

Virtual Biology Textbook

These pages were retrieved from MIT website in mid 2000s (if I remember correctly).  Now they are no longer posted because the author, Dr. Vernon Ingram,  died in 2006 and no longer works for MIT.

I am making these available for the benefit of students and intentionally recognize their authorship and original ownership.  Please cite the original author if you use information contained in these documents.  For more information you can visit the former MIT virtual biology site and see Dr. Ingram's obituary.

Virtual Microscope

Like the name says, this is a way to practice miroscopy from the "safety" of your laptop!  Includes actual microscope images for viewing.

Cell structure with detailed diagrams

This link is an external website called "Molecular Expressions."  This site has the best three dimensional diagrams of cell structure and organelles that I have seen.  Be sure you look at these if you are trying to understand what organelles look like.  These are amazing!

Microscopy photographs

The American Society for Cell Biology has an amazing website that is packed with microscope images of cell structure.  What is so fun about this site is that it is a "real" science site where scientists post their work and even have journal pages alongside the images describing the techniques used to make the cell samples usable under electron microscopes.

Biology Laboratory Manual

This is an extensive and detailed lab manual written and maintained by a college teacher.  It has everything about cell biology in the laboratory!
