Lesson: (1) Define chemistry: "study of energy and matter and their interactions." (2) Demonstrate harmful result of mixing bleach (containing Cl) and acid (such as vinegar) which produces Cl gas - used in trench warfare in WW1 and in Nazi concentration camps in WW2. (3) Teach students how to light bunsen burners (4) remind students of fire extinguisher use [4 steps] (5) Tie back long hair when using fire. (6) Students do heat lab, "Conductor/Insulator."
Assignment: (1) Questions from lab "Conductor/Insulator" due in writing at beginning of next class.
