Class 1

OBJECTIVE(S)

Students demonstrate knowledge of heat and energy (summative assessment) by writing expository paper.

LESSON(S)

D block:  (1)  Explain summative assignment to students.  (2)  Share assignment on Google Doc (see attached).  (3)  Share IB rubric via Google Doc (see attached).  (4)  In class students organize questions according to their own essay design by physically sequencing question on paper or by doing it on Google Doc and sharing it with Mr. Reimer before the end of class.

D block:  (1)  IN CLASS, complete sequencing of questions and hand in to Mr. Reimer.  (2) Final essay due Friday, Feb 22, at beginning of class period.

F block:  (1)  IN CLASS, complete sequencing of questions and hand in to Mr. Reimer.   Questions should be grouped into common ideas or concepts and each group of questions should have a heading.  (2) Final essay due Friday, Feb 22, at beginning of class period.

(1)  Introduce new topic:  "Atoms and periodic table" (2) Highlight resources from website for use in class (3) Review objectives for new unit

LESSON(S)

D block:  (1) Demonstrate "Objectives" page on this website, showing students list of objectives, new text writing, assessment questions, and misconceptions. (2) Review all objectives for this unit, highlighting material learned last semester (which will not be retaught) and new concepts which will be taught this unit. Announce formative assessment on Monday, Feb 25 and summative unit test on Friday, March 7.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

D block:  (1) Formative assessment Monday (next) on: "8.D Understands the subatomic particles makeup of every atom including name, charge, location and relative mass of protons, neutrons and electrons.  8.D.2 Be able to solve for name, Standard Atomic Notation, number of protons, neutrons and electrons for first 20 elements." (2) Build a simple 3-D model of one atom [click on this link to see specifications] and send a photo of your model that clearly shows your model, the labels and your face by email attachment to Mr. Reimer with the subject:  D_atom_name.
