7 Equations and inequalities

Student seemed very competent with this material and so we flew through it.

02.25 Monday

Objective:

Unit objectives:  Student will be able to solve: one step equations; two step equations; inequalities (with one and two steps).

Lesson:

Summative assessment on unit 7.  If time permits, watch "Numb3rs" episode to apply equations functions to real life events!

Assignment:

None

02.21 Thursday

Objective:

Introduce new topic:  Equations with inequalities

Lesson:

(1)  Provide model solutions to three questions. (2) Students solve p. 357 #13-27 odd in class.  (Formative quiz on text 7-1.  (2)  Students work problems in class from p. 337 # 11-29 odd.  While students work I monitor progress and teach individuals. (3) Formative quiz at end of period.

Assignment:

(1)  Answer following questions showing all work:  p. 358 # 31-44 all.  Summative test next Monday on this unit.

02.19 Tuesday

Objective:

Introduce new topic:  Equations with variables on both sides (7-1)

Lesson:

(1)  Formative quiz on text 7-1.  (2)  Students work problems in class from p. 337 # 11-29 odd.  While students work I monitor progress and teach individuals.

Assignment:

(1)  Answer following questions showing all work:  p. 337-8 # 24,26, 28, 30-41.  [This is a selection of the most difficult problems in this section since students mostly understand the concept.]

02.14 Thursday

Objective:  Assessment

Lesson:  (1)  Summative assessment on dimensional analysis, proportions, and fraction/ decimal/ percent conversions.

Assignment:  [Begin new topic on Monday; 7.1 in text.]

02.12 Tuesday

Objective:  Check proportions for understanding and if good, move onto next topic.

Lesson:  (1)  Review "proportion" assignment and solving for one variable in proportions (using cross multiply technique.

Assignment:  Textbook p. 284 #20-27 and 32-48; and p. 291 #9-25  Summative test on i) dimensional analysis, ii) proportions and iii) interconverting percent, decimal and fractions.

02.11 Monday

Objective:  (1) Formative assessment on dimensional analysis

Lesson:  (1)  Quiz on dimensional analysis (2) Assign proportion questions [kids seem to understand this well so we will just do one assignment for review then move on.]

Assignment:  Textbook p. 273 #9-29 (all)  [Next day grade for showing work and for problems solving.]
