"From the Earth to the Moon," is an amazing 12 movies series looking at the US space program during the 60's when the goal was to "put a man on the moon and return him safely to earth again," as then president John F. Kennedy described it. It is produced by Tom Hanks, a stickler for historical and technical accuracy.
12 hours of space may seem like a lot, but each episode focueses on a particular aspect of the program. One episode focuses on how to design a lunar lander that meets a myriad of specifications. Another episode focusses on what it was like for the wives of astronauts. One episode focusses on Apollo 1 including the fallout of the tragedy and how to change the status quo to make future flights safer. Phenomenal!
